Reiki

Reiki is a gentle, non evasive treatment that works on the body's subtle energy field. It can be used to treat a number of conditions whether they be physical or emotional. Throughout the treatment the client will remain fully clothed and depending on comfort, can be sitting down or preferably lying on the treatment bed. A treatment will usually last one hour depending on the clients needs, this will include a consultation before the treatment. During a Reiki treatment the practitioner will gently place their hands over energy points on the body with the aim to clear any blockages they might feel, this will rebalance the clients Chakras (energy points) by clearing and opening them.

What will I feel during and after a Reiki treatment?

During a Reiki treatment the client will usually feel extremely relaxed and can even fall asleep. As the practitioner is working on the bodies’ energy field the client may experience feelings of heat or tingling from the practitioners hands as the energy moves and re balances. Some people may also experience a slight spinning sensation or will see different colours when they close their eyes. The experience is different for everyone and one treatment will never be the same as the last. These feelings are completely normal and are part of the healing process.

After the treatment the client will often feel ‘lighter and brighter’ as if a weight has been lifted. Depending on the clients emotional state they may feel tearful, this is due to a release of tension and the client will usually feel much better after this. Another healing response may be a feeling of tiredness after the treatment or a feeling of having a lot more energy than before. The best thing to do is to drink plenty of water and to get some rest after the treatment. The client will usually notice a difference in how they feel the next day, once their body has been given a chance to re-jig itself.

Energy and Chakras

Reiki originates from Japan and means Universal (Rei) Energy (Ki). Or, it is sometimes called ‘The Universal Life Energy’. This energy flows in and around everything living on this planet and is referred to as Ki (Japanese) or Qi (Chinese). The human body has 7 major Chakras; these are the base, the sacral, the solar plexus, the throat, the brow and the crown. When the body’s energy becomes unbalanced or stuck this will cause a Ki stagnation, which is a blockage of energy. When the energy does not flow properly, negative energy builds up, causing common ailments, including stress, pain, anxiety and even illness. Reiki enables the body’s Ki to flow freely again so that the body and mind can regain homeostasis.

Benefits

Reiki is not a ‘cure all’ and should not replace any medication that you may be talking. It is a complimentary therapy which can be used along side allopathic medicine. It is recognised by the NHS and is often used in palliative care and hospices for the elderly. It can be extremley beneficial for people recovering from illness and disease.

Other benefits include: Clearing toxins, relieving stress and anxiety, easing headaches and migraines, calming the mind, relieving pain and tension, comforting and releasing, promotes intuition and creativity.

Reiki can also be very beneficial for children, especially if they are hyperactive, worried about school, or if they find it hard to relax/sleep. If you would like to book a treatment for your child they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian if they are under the age of 16.

Contraindications

The great thing about Reiki is that there are no contraindications to having a treatment. Anyone can benefit from Reiki weather they be young, old, pregnant etc. As it is such a subtle, gentle treatment there is no reason why anyone would not be able to be treated.
